Last Post

Well, this is the last post on this blog.

As of today this blog is one year old, which is kind of cool.

I am starting a new blog because I am basically starting my entire life over pretty soon, so I figured I should start a new blog as well. Here is the link to it:

The New "Intended To Be..."

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has left me comments from time to time. I hope that everyone will keep writing comments, and hopefully I will get even more comments! lol.

Well...I wish I had something eloquent or meaningful to say for my last post on this blog, but I cant really think of anything right now...which makes me kind of sad. But oh well. If I think of something wonderful to say at some later point, I will just update this post then LOL.

Until then, I will end this blog with something ridiculously cute:

The End

As of April 27th this blog will be one year old.

Starting April 28th I will start posting on my new blog:

www.intendedtobe.blogspot.com

I'm pretty sure I have it all set up the way I want, and it is ready to go. I would be writing on it already but I thought it would be kind of cool to have been writing on this blog for a whole year.

Anyway, I just wanted to give you guys the heads up so that you can add it to your links/bookmarks or whatever.

Ho'o: I have no idea why that column runs over on your computer. I'm guessing its because it is a mac. I've tried it on a couple of computers and I think it is pretty much good except the header gets shrunk on the computer in my lab for some unknown reason lol. Anyway, if it is a big problem let me know and I will spend some more time trying to figure out how to fix it.

Dana: Your computer is a mac too right? Do the words in the right hand column also not wrap around, so that the last couple letters get cut off?

Also...

The freaking door knob on my bedroom door CAME OFF. I pulled on it to close my bedroom door so that Harley wouldnt get in the way or run out the front door...and it just CAME OFF! Seriously, you have no idea how annoying it is to not actually be able to close a door normally when you want to :-P lol.

Awkward...

So I am just sitting here in my house while some random guy fixes the carpet that Harley tore up, and while he cleans the carpets. I feel really awkward because nobody else is here, and it isnt like I have music playing or the TV or something. I mean, I had been watching "Six Feet Under" on my laptop but that seems a bit inappropriate to be watching while there is a random stranger in the house. It is kind of a racy/sometimes offensive show lol. I also have Harley locked in my room so it isnt like I can hang out in my room while he is working at the moment, because I thought it would be a touch rude if I just lock myself in another room lol. So instead I am sitting in the living room waiting for him to finish up fixing the carpet at the end of the hallway so I can put Harley in either Erich or Josh's room, so that I can sit in my room and not feel so weird lol.

I always feel weird when someone comes to the house to fix something, or work on something. I feel weird just sitting there and not helping, you know? Especially because for most of it, I know how to do it. I mean, today for example, I know how to put carpet down. I havent patched carpet before but I'm sure I could figure it out, and also, do I offer to help move the furniture?

Ahhhh AWKWARD!

Oh my god.
Harley threw up at 6:30am today...

And it was bright green...

Which was from her new food (it is rabbit and peas) LOL.

There was a split second there, where I TOTALLY freaked out lol.

Harley

Update: I know the formatting on this post is all screwed up, but I am too lazy to fix it lol. It is from all the pictures and cutting and pasting of text that I did. Oh well!
---------------------

Here is the newest regiment for Harley. I know you guys probably dont care lol, but I do, and it is important to me. I also find all this crazy animal medicine stuff kind of interesting.
----------------------
(1/4 cup dry z/d food) + (1/4 can Rabbit formula food) -----> Twice a day (it smells sooo bad lol, but at least she will eat it!)

Science Diet z/d® Low Allergen Feline
For the Nutritional Management of Cats with Food Allergy and Intolerance

ROYAL CANIN Veterinary Diet™ feline Green Peas and Rabbit Formula

Highly palatable, digestible, complete, and balanced diet for the adult cat. Rabbit is the only source of protein and green peas are the only source of carbohydrate.

----------------------
Laxatone -----> 1 inch, every other day for hairballs

---------------------
Metoclopramide -----> 2.5 mg (1/4 tablet) orally, 30 minutes before feeding

  • Metoclopramide is a drug commonly used for management of vomiting and gastrointestinal disorders in dogs and cats. The drug is classified as an anti-emetic (anti-vomiting) drug.

  • Metoclopramide blocks the chemical dopamine in parts of the brain to provide a central anti-vomiting effect.
  • Metoclopramide also stimulates the contraction of the stomach and of the upper portion of the small intestine. These actions occur without stimulating secretions of digestive enzymes.

  • Metoclopramide also increases the pressure at the lower esophageal sphincter. This can reduce or prevent stomach acid from entering the esophagus (a condition called gastro-esophageal reflux).

  • The drug is also used to stimulate stomach and intestinal motility when these motions are abnormally reduced.
  • -------------------
    Metronidazole -----> 62.5mg (1/4 tablet) every 24 hours

Metronidazole is used to treat protozoal infections in cats and dogs including Giardia, Entamoeba, Trichomonas, and Balantidium. It is also used to treat anaerobic bacterial infections. Metronidazole has immune modulating activity and may be prescribed to treat inflammatory bowel disease. It may be used to treat colitis caused by other antibiotics, periodontal disease (especially in cats), Clostridium perfringens enterotoxemia, tetanus, diarrhea of undetermined cause, pancreatic insufficiency (with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), and complications of severe liver disease. Metronidazole may be used with corticosteroids in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, or gum disease (gingivitis/stomatitis) in cats. Topical metronidazole gel is used in the treatment of skin infections, such as feline chin acne.
    ---------------------

Well, that is everything for now.

    Damn.

So basically, I have to give her three pills a day and she gets to eat what she would consider fancy food lol. It only took erich and I four tries to give Harley her first pill today lol. We had to use a "pill shooter"

Which is exactly what it looks/sounds like. It is a long plunger like thing with a rubber tip. You put the pill inside the rubber tip, shove it in the cats mouth, depress the plunger which "shoots" the pill into the back of their mouth. Then you close their mouth and hold it closed while you lightly blow into their nose....weird, i know lol, but it forces them to swallow - thereby swallowing the pill instead of spitting it onto the floor.

Hopefully this will get easier, and hopefully after two weeks they will either lower the dosage of her meds or take her off of them all together to see if the food itself will be enough.

Keep your fingers crossed that this all goes well :-/
    ----------------------
End of really long and boring post about my cat that nobody will actually read LOL.

    This is getting really frustrating...

    So harley is still sick.

She keeps randomly throwing up bile (yeah, yeah...gross...but i dont care lol). Sometimes its every other day, sometimes it is two weeks apart.

Here is a list of all the stuff we have done so far:

    1. Give her Laxatone every other day in case it was just hair balls -didnt work
    2. Change her food from Science Diet adult dry food to Science Diet canned food - didnt work
    3. 2 Xrays - negative
    4. Full CBC (blood work) -negative
    5. Tested for parasites - negative
    6. Tapped her bladder to test for really weird rare parasites - negative
    7. Ultra sound - negative
    8. Changed her food from Science Diet canned food to Eukanuba Low Residue Adult Rx diet dry food, which is made for cats who have intestinal problems like vomiting - she refused to eat it...not a surprise...the base of it is made of beet pulp...yeah, weird.
    9. Changed her food from E.L.R.A.Rx dry food to the canned version - she STILL refused to eat it
    10. CHANGED HER FOOD TO FREAKING BABY FOOD...YEAH...BABY FOOD. - She LOVED it...but she still threw up

Total cost NOT including regular office visits and food and gas and carpet cleaner from the vomiting....

    $1,017.52

    FUCKING HELL.

So I get to call the vet again tomorrow and see what I need to do now. They may try to switch her to an all lamb and rice diet, or a venison and rice diet. They also might end up having to do an edoscopic biopsy of her stomach and small intestine.

    FUCK.

I dont think Harley is feeling sick. She throws up and then immediately goes back to playing, or running around or whatever else she was doing. She has tons of energy, she eats/drinks (if she likes the food that is lol), she plays all the time....which is good. I'm just really worried that there is something really really wrong with her...

    I am getting really frustrated...

Well, we will see what the vet says tomorrow.

    Ugh.

I just about had a heart attack...

    Oh holy crap...
    Ok...
    So...

Harley was running out of canned food, because I only bought a couple cans in case they wanted me to change her food again. Anyway, but I had like one can left stashed in the back of the cupboard.

I opened it up, and fed it to her.

Then I was standing there cleaning up some dishes and I looked at her food, and thought...

"huh..thats weird. All the stuff I have been feeding her has been that mushy paste kind of cat food, but this is the cut up chunks with the 'gravy' stuff. She likes that kind better, I wonder why I only bought one can of it."

    Then I remembered.

That is the kind of cat food that had been recalled.

I ran over to the garbage can and pulled out the empty cat food can [gross] and ran into my bedroom to look up the recalled products on the internet.

I went to the science diet page, pulled up the list...scrolled through the list...and found the Chicken dinner with gravy listed with the same UPC.

SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT FUCK SHIT = the only thing that went through my head for like 30 seconds.

Then I saw that the recalled cat food only fell under a certain batch that was made during a certain time period. The recalled food had the dates Jun/20/2008 and Jun/21/2008 listed on the bottom of the can.

The one I fed to Harley said use by November 2007.

    Oh my god.

So I'm sure that the food I gave her was totally fine, but I am still a little worried obviously. I feel like a total moron. I should have realized it before I actually gave it to her lol.

But seriously, I dont think I was breathing the entire time I was looking up the recall information lol.

Keep your fingers crossed that I didnt accidentally find another batch of cat food that needs to be recalled! :-/
