Update on the recommendation thing...
So I asked Dr. Randall if he would write me recommendations for grad school.
He said yes, but that he wanted some information before he wrote it. He wants:
1. my transcripts/list of classes I have taken (he doesn't care about the grade part)
2. my "Statement of Purpose"
3. a list of all my extra curricular activities
OK, so it may not sound like a lot, but I am not too keen on people reading my statement of purpose. Most likely because I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO WRITE, and I think it might be kind of embarrassing...I haven't had them read anything other than lab reports before lol. I know I write really well, but the thing is that the statement of purpose is basically where you are 'selling' yourself to the college you are applying too. It is WAY worse then an undergrad essay, because you have to write about what you intend to do for your schooling/career/why you want to do it/why you would be good at it/who you want as your advisor and why...etc. I guess I just don't want my professors to read such a cheesy, suck-up-y thing you know?
It is also bad because that means I have to start working on it. God, I cant even finish all my hw and now I have to worry about writing my statement of purpose...ugh...
I haven't even signed up for the GREs, let alone studied for them :-/
Crap...
That basically sums it up lol
Oh yeah, and I have to start making up shit for my extra curriculars LOL

Well, the thing about asking for your statement of purpose is that it gives them an idea what you're saying, so that A- he can add to it, and B- he can find other things to talk about so that his recommendation will shine light on areas other than what you've talked about.
Yeah, it's a silly thing to share w/ someone. I hate writing the damned things. But it helps focus both your application and their recommendation. Don't be embarrassed - basically, if you say you want to do X in your statement, Dr. Randall will show all the ways that you've proven over the past four years that you are capable of X. It's a good thing. It's like having a personal cheerleader! =P
lol yeah I know, but it is just kind of a weird feeling. And I know that I am a great writter, and he seemed excited about writing my recomondation...i guess it just feels like you are putting it all out there for someone to see which is why it feels kind of weird
